Higher Grounds and Idyllwild

Welcome back! Today, we’ll be introducing Higher Grounds and highlighting the work we do within our community to do our best to give back and support the community that supports us so well. If you haven’t checked out our first article introducing this project, please go back and read that first to have an introduction into how these articles will be released and a little about who we are.

Higher Grounds Coffee House has been a staple within the small mountain community of Idyllwild, California for over 10 years, but the current owner, Mimi Lamp, bought the cafe about 6 years ago. Since then, Mimi has begun to develop the cafe as a gathering place for the community. HG is often referred to as, “Idyllwild’s living room,” and we’re proud of that reputation. We see ourselves as the place people can come to gather, read, socialize, even write presidential speeches, all while enjoying our coffee and pastries. As employees of HG we welcome everyone with a smile, and have so many regular customers we look forward to seeing everyday. HG truly wouldn’t be what it is today without our incredible employees and their hard work to serve the community.

As a cafe, we pride ourselves on being as conscious as possible about what our customers would like to see from us and how to better serve them. We strive to give our customers a consistent and great product every time they come in. To help achieve this, we offer only organic and fair trade coffee, as well as, quality ingredients such as Ghirardelli chocolate for our mochas and hot chocolates. We use the best and most consistent espresso machine, a 3 portafilter La Marzocco machine, and we even have a reverse osmosis water filter to achieve the most consistent drinks and espresso every time. In addition, we make all of our pastries in house to compliment our delicious coffee. You’ll find classics like coffee cake and banana bread and an ever changing supply of muffin varieties just to give you an idea. We’re always open to suggestions from our customers about what they’d like to see in the shop and what we can offer them to make their experience more enjoyable. We’d be nothing without our customers. From the tourists who make their way into the shop on their travels, to the every day folks, we can’t thank you enough for helping Higher Grounds make it to where we are now.

To try to say thank you, owner Mimi and Higher Grounds try to give back to the community whenever possible. Whether it’s for the Idyllwild 5k/10k race held annually, the Idyllwild Renaissance Fair, or the Christmas Tree Lighting in the center of town, you’ll find coffee donated from us. If you’re holding a public event for the community, don’t hesitate to reach out to us! We see it as the least we can do for all the support and love we get from Idyllwild. Even our HG t-shirts are produced in a school for youth recovering from addiction. Any amount of support we can give to Idyllwild is extremely important to us. We hope that as we grow as a company, our community support efforts will only grow further.

I hope this has given you a better idea of our values as a business. We prefer to keep our focus on supporting our community and keeping our efforts close to home. No matter what is happening within the world, we hope Higher Grounds will always be a place everyone feels they can come, sit down, work, or relax, and always have a great cup of coffee. We hope to see you in the shop someday whether you’re a local or traveling from far away! Warmest regards,
